During the holidays, it’s easy to feel pulled in all directions with parties, family gatherings, events and shopping lists. While the holidays are a ton of fun, they can also be stressful, leaving you with holiday burnout at the end of it all.
To ensure you get to enjoy this holiday to it’s fullest, take 60 minutes of your day, preferably in the morning to set yourself up for success. If you feel 60 minutes in the morning will not work for you, consider that it might be possible if you go to bed earlier the night before. However, if mornings simply will not work, try to work the 60 minutes into chunks throughout your day whenever you can.
I always start my day with a tall glass of fresh water to hydrate and cleanse my body from the night before. I often add lime to alkalize my water as well. Then I pick my favorite herbal tea and prepare it to steep for 10 minutes. Lately, I’m loving drinking a mix of Raspberry Leaf and Alfalfa for an earthy, fruity flavor that is full of minerals and anti-oxidants. Staying hydrated is key to feeling your best throughout the day and it starts in the morning as soon as you wake up.
Meditation comes in many forms but all of them help us to re-connect with ourselves and quiet the mind. Currently, I’m enjoying the Headspace App from ITunes which guides me through 10 minute meditations focusing on different topics. Each segment is 30 days and I’ve found that starting my day with meditation, not only makes me feel more peaceful immediately, I feel a greater sense of peace all day. I find that a guided meditation really works for me and helps me re-focus when my thoughts start to wander off.
I look at the morning as a time to plan who I want to be and how I want to show up in the world. When I’m writing in my journal in the morning, I always start with, ” I love myself fully and unconditionally, just as I am” and then continue with “I am” statements about who I want to be. I imagine who I will have to be today to make the statements true in my life. Finally, I write a few things I’m grateful for and then read it out loud to myself at least once.
Just getting 20 minutes of exercise in the mornings will boost your endorphins and serotonin in the brain leaving you feeling full of happy energy all day. I love HIIT workouts and interval training in my living room when I only have 20 minutes. I start with a warm up such as squats, skipping and other dynamic stretches. Then I move onto either lower body, upper body or a combination of both with weights. I love adding plank poses into my routine and then some Yoga stretches at the end. This type of exercise boosts your metabolism and leaves you burning calories all day.
I almost always have a large green smoothie for breakfast. If it’s cold outside I make sure my fruit is only slightly chilled and I drink it while wearing warm clothes or with my hot water bottle! Fruit and greens together are the perfect combination leaving me feeling energized and satisfied. It also helps me feel more balanced while cleansing and hydrating my body. My current go to smoothie is:
5-6 ripe spotty bananas
1 large handful of spinach and kale
1 cup of frozen berries
Barley grass juice powder
Wild blueberry powder
Try and listen to something uplifting and positive while making your smoothie! I’m loving finding motivational speeches and affirmation videos on Youtube lately. Click HERE for one I’ve been listening to recently.
Remember this holiday season is supposed to be JOYFUL and when you’re feeling good on the inside, it will show on the outside.
