All my life I ate a very standard American diet full of processed, fast foods. I abused my body in many ways and I struggled with depression, anxiety, acne, lack of energy, digestive issues and dehydration. I felt angry, self-loathing, alone, emotionally out of control and desperately wanting to feel better.
When I developed adult cystic acne, it sparked a deep desire in me to get to the bottom of what was making look on the outside how I felt on the inside.
I spent years learning and trying different diets such as a standard vegan diet, vegetarian, paleo, pescatarian, a standard whole foods diet and a high fat raw diet. I always felt better for a while and then I would see my symptoms return.
It wasn’t until I was looking for a juicer online that I ran across a video where Fully Raw Kristina spoke about eating a diet exclusively of raw fruits and vegetables. I was shocked and in complete disbelief! Still, something inside told me to pay attention, after all there she was, alive and looking radiant on just fruits and vegetables!
I devoured information on the subject and on New Years Day 2012, I went on a diet of completely fruits and vegetables, very low in fat with the intention of doing a cleanse for two months. I went through a lot of physical, mental and emotional changes those months and at first my acne got worse. With the inspiration I found online, support from long time health educator Don Bennett and reading the book 80 10 10 by Dr. Doug Graham, I continued. Since then I have stayed completely lower-fat plant-based and I eat low fat raw for periods at a time. I love juicing vegetables, eating fruit in the mornings/day and then often having a cooked plant based dinner.
Over time my depression and anxiety have disappeared (and when they do return every so often, it is manageable), my chronic acne is gone, I have more consistent energy and my emotions are balanced. I have also embarked on an epic journey to self-love and forgiveness that has changed my world in ways that I believe, almost nothing else can.
I believe this kind of change is possible for anyone. What you put in your body, how you talk to yourself and how you live your life create your reality. Let’s do this together and enjoy this beautiful gift we call life!
